FAI rent-a-jet AG (dba FAI Flight Ambulance-Intl.) was founded in 1986 as a 100% subsidiary of a private repatriation club under the company name of IFA-Flugbetriebs GmbH.

In the year of 1989 the company was sold during an outsourcing process and the company´s name was changed into "FAI Flight-Ambulance-Service International GmbH & Co. KG".

Since that time, the company was owned by one of the Axtmann-Family´s holding companies.

FAI is serving the Insurance- and Assistance-Industry, Government-Agencies, NGO´s, hospitals, corporations and private individuals for more than 20 years now.

Since 1987 FAI holds an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) under license no. D-049-AOC, issued by the German Federal Ministry of Transport, as well as an Aircraft Maintenance license for aircraft of the manufacturer Learjet-Bombardier and Falcon Dassault, license no. DE.145.0062 EASA Part-145. FAI also has an in-house pilot-training center (TRTO) under license no. D-TRTO 1.062.

All three licenses are quality seals, certifying that all quality requirements are met for both air transport, maintenance and pilot-training. This is compulsory for all German Airservice Providers.

In 1991 FAI took over the GRUNDIG-Flight-Department during another outsourcing process including a Falcon 20 plus four employees.

From 1989-2001, FAI was busy in different sectors of the General Aviation Market, doing Air Ambulance, Executive Charter, Maintenance and Aircraft Leasing.

During that time, FAI operated aircraft of the Manufacturers Falcon Dassault and Cessna Citation as well as various helicopters.

Since 2001, when FAI acquired its first two Learjet Aircrafts (LR 35A + LR 55), the company was expanding the Air Ambulance business sector and simultaneously reduced the activities in other fields of Air services.

Meanwhile FAI is generating 70% of its revenue with Air Ambulance related services.

In May 2007 FAI was awarded with EURAMI’s (European Aero-Medical Institute) Certificate of “Critical Care” which is the highest certification EURAMI is issuing to Air Ambulance operators.

In December 2008 the Axtmann-Family sold a 49,9 % stake in FAI to MIG Aviation Holdings Ltd., Nicosia, Cyprus, a 100 % subsidiary of MIG Marfin Investment Group Holdings S.A., Athens, Greece, which is the largest Investment Group in Greece. MIG is headquartered in Athens and listed on the Athens Stock Exchange. 58 % of its share capital is held directly or indirectly by Greek investors and 24 % is held by international institutional investors.

In March 2009 FAI acquired a 60 % stake in Nomad Aviation AG, Switzerland, a Swiss EU-OPS1 Operator, currently operating three Challenger 604, one Legacy 600 and one Citation-Jet under Management Contract. This interest was sold again with a Management-Buy-out in June 2010.
